The Minnesota Timberwolves aren’t getting much from their rookies

The Timberwolves aren’t getting much from their rookies this season and they could wind up nailed to the bench if they don’t pick up their play soon. First round pick Corey Brewer has been a bust so far this season. He has played in 26 games and he’s averaging 24.0 minutes, 5.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. The most disappointing thing about Brewer’s play is his shooting which has been awful. Brewer is only hitting 31.8% of his shots from the floor, 21.4% from three-point range and 74.3% from the free throw line. 2nd round pick Chris Richard hasn’t done much with his limited playing time this season. He has played in 18 games and he is averaging 9.1 minutes, 1.4 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. He has shot well however as he is hitting 52.6% of his shots from the floor and 85.7% from the free throw line.

Ryan Gomes is not playing to his ability for the Minnesota Timberwolves

Ryan Gomes has been shooting a lot of bricks this month as he has only hit 33.3% of his shots from the floor. His poor shooting is costing him playing time and that’s the way it should be. Gomes has played in 4 games (3 starts) so far in December and he is averaging 19.3 minutes, 5.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. The Wolves need more from Gomes or he should start riding the bench more than he has this season.

Smith has played in 4 games (2 starts) this month and he has averaged 29.8 minutes, 13.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. He also is shooting an amazing 62.2% from the floor. Smith deserves to start for the T-Wolves because he’s definately one of there 5 best basketball players.

The Timberwolves are in 5th place in Northwest Division with a 3-15 record which has them 8.5 games behind the Jazz and Nuggets. The T-Wolves are having trouble scoring points as they are only averaging 93.3 points per game. The Wolves will have a hard time winning games unless they improve on offense.

Corey Brewer is off to a rough start for the Minnesota Timberwolves

Blogged under Bloglockers, Need to step up, Rookie Reports, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 6 December 2007 at 1:59 pm

First round pick Corey Brewer is having trouble adjusting to the NBA as he’s only shooting 31.3% from the floor and that could find him a seat on the bench soon. In his first 14 games Brewer averaged 18.1 minutes, 4.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. Despite the T-Wolves being in a rebuilding mode they can’t play Brewer much until he deserves the time due to his play on the court.
