The Minnesota Timberwolves have to be pleased with the graduating rookie class

21-year old point guard Jonny Flynn was solid as a rookie for the Timberwolves this year. Flynn played in 81 games (all starts) for the Timberwolves this season and he averaged 28.9 minutes, 13.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.0 steal per game. He has a kind of swagger to him that rubs off on his teammates. The only thing I think he needs to do is pass more next season as they has already proven that he can score. A point guard’s job is to make everyone better offensively around him and I think Flynn will do more of that next season. 22-year old shooting guard Wayne Ellington really played decent off the bench and he could work his way into more playing time in the future. Ellington played in 76 games (1 start) for the Timberwolves this year and he averaged 18.2 minutes, 6.6 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game.

The Timberwolves tried to win last night but they were outscored 35-19 in the fourth quarter and it’s almost impossible to win that way. Corey Brewer led the way for the T-Wolves last night with 27 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists last night. Al Jefferson was tough around the basket, as usual, with 16 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocked shots. Darko Milicic also had a solid game with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. The Timberwolves finish the season with a pathetic 15-67 record.

The Timberwolves played all 12 guys on the active roster at least 8 minutes last night. But no one played any D as the Spurs shot 58% from the floor and that explains the scoreboard. Sasha Pavlovic led the way for the T-Wolves last night with 16 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists on 6 of 7 shooting from the floor. Al Jefferson had a decent game with 13 points and 6 rebounds in only 24 minutes on the court. Ramon Sessions really ran the offense well when he was on the court as he finished up with 13 points, 3 rebounds and 10 assists in only 27 minutes off the bench. Wayne Ellington (13 points, 4 rebounds), Corey Brewer (11 points), Ryan Gomes (11 points) and Kevin Love (11 points, 9 rebounds) all helped out offensively for the T-Wolves last night. The Timberwolves are 15-66 on the season now.

New Orleans Hornets 114, Minnesota Timberwolves 86

The Timberwolves were awful tonight, plain and simple. They shot only 39.4% from the floor while allowing the Hornets to shoot 52.4% from the floor. The T-Wolves also got outrebounded 49-30 as they just didn’t seem to care tonight. All 12 players on the active roster played at least 9 minutes for the T-Wolves tonight. Ryan Gomes led the way for the Timberpuppies with 18 points and 4 rebounds. Ramon Sessions pitched in with 17 points and 2 rebounds in only 22 minutes on the court. Jonny Flynn played only 26 minutes tonight finishing with 11 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. The Timberwolves are now 15-65 on the year as it looks like they have already packed it in for the 2009-2010 season.

Corey Brewer has really improved this season for the Minnesota Timberwolves

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Wednesday 7 April 2010 at 6:38 pm

24-year old shooting guard Corey Brewer has improved by leaps and bounds this season for the T-Wolves. Brewer has played in 77 games (all starts) this season for the Timberwolves and he is averaging 30.3 minutes, 13.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Brewer is also shooting a career best 43% from the floor so far this season which would be a career best. If Brewer improves again next season he will be a player the Timberwolves can really start to count on.
