The Minnesota Timberwolves weren’t as lucky this year in the draft as the previous season

The Timberwolves did a great job two seasons ago drafting Randy Foye and Craig Smith but last summer’s draft looks like a disaster. G/F Corey Brewer was the first round pick of the Timberwolves last summer and he didn’t play well at all as a rookie. Brewer played in 79 games (35 starts) as a rookie this year and he averaged 22.8 minutes, 5.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.0 steal per game. Brewer should have quit shooting as much as he did because he only hit 37.4% of his shots from the floor and that just won’t get it done. If Brewer wants to be anything more than a bench player he better get his act together before the start of next season.

Forward Chris Richard was the 2nd round pick of the Timberwolves but he didn’t get enough playing time to show what he can do. Richard played in 52 games (3 starts) for the Timberwolves last season and he averaged 10.7 minutes, 1.9 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. Richard is a solid rebounder but he’s behind a lot of players at power forward for the T-Wolves.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are disappointed in the play of their rookies

The Timberwolves have not been happy with the play of forward Corey Brewer who was their first round pick in last year’s Draft. He has played in 56 games (29 starts) this season for the Bucks and he is averaging 22.5 minutes, 5.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He is shooting horrible from the floor (35.1%) but he is shooting decent from the free throw line (75.3%) this year. The Timberwolves hope that Brewer’s shot selection improves so that his shooting % will go up. 2nd round pick Chris Richard doesn’t get to play much but he hasn’t played that bad. He has played in 27 games (3 starts) this season with the Timberwolves and he is averaging 8.6 minutes, 1.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. He has hit 48% of his shots from the floor and 88.9% from the free throw line. It will be tough for Richard to get extended playing time this season as he is too far down the depth chart.

The Minnesota Timberwolves aren’t getting much from their rookies

The Timberwolves aren’t getting much from their rookies this season and they could wind up nailed to the bench if they don’t pick up their play soon. First round pick Corey Brewer has been a bust so far this season. He has played in 26 games and he’s averaging 24.0 minutes, 5.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. The most disappointing thing about Brewer’s play is his shooting which has been awful. Brewer is only hitting 31.8% of his shots from the floor, 21.4% from three-point range and 74.3% from the free throw line. 2nd round pick Chris Richard hasn’t done much with his limited playing time this season. He has played in 18 games and he is averaging 9.1 minutes, 1.4 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. He has shot well however as he is hitting 52.6% of his shots from the floor and 85.7% from the free throw line.

Corey Brewer is off to a rough start for the Minnesota Timberwolves

First round pick Corey Brewer is having trouble adjusting to the NBA as he’s only shooting 31.3% from the floor and that could find him a seat on the bench soon. In his first 14 games Brewer averaged 18.1 minutes, 4.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. Despite the T-Wolves being in a rebuilding mode they can’t play Brewer much until he deserves the time due to his play on the court.

The rookies of the Minnesota Timberwolves earn a B+

The T-Wolves must have known what they were doing on Draft Day last year because they drafted the only pair of rookies that played in all 82 games this season.
