22-year old power forward Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves has been named the NBA’s Most Improved Player of the Year for the 2010-11 season. Love played in 73 games (all starts) for the T-Wolves last year and he averaged 35.8 minutes, 20.2 points, 15.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. He was also a very efficient shooter as he hit 47% from the floor, 41.7% from three-point range and he nailed 85% of his free throws last year. Love predicted himself that he would lead the league in rebounding if he just had a starting gig, so he backed up his talk. Love has now played in 214 games (132 starts) in his first three years with the Timberwolves and he has averaged 29.8 minutes, 15.0 points, 11.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. Kevin Love could be a serious player for the NBA’s MVP Award down the road if he can stay healthy and the T-Wolves can start winning more games.

22-year old small forward Michael Beasley is finishing his first season with the Timberwolves strongly. In his first four games in April, Beasley is averaging 36.5 minutes, 19.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He has now played in 70 games (all starts) for the Timberwolves this year and he is averaging 32.3 minutes, 19.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. Beasley was an absolute steal for the Timberwolves last summer when they got him from the Heat and he will be a big part of the future in Minnesota.

Anthony Randolph is off to a good start for the Minnesota Timberwolves

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Sunday 20 March 2011 at 2:00 pm

21-year old power forward Anthony Randolph is off to a good start for the Timberwolves. He has played in 11 games (0 starts) for the T-Wolves since coming over in a deal with the Knicks and he is averaging 14.5 minutes, 7.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. Despite his good start for the Timberwolves, it’s hard to see where Randolph fits in with the team as Kevin Love and Anthony Tolliver are going to block him from getting P.T. in the short term.

Anthony Tolliver is stepping up lately for the Minnesota Timberwolves

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 1 March 2011 at 3:27 pm

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been giving 25-year old forward Anthony Tolliver some P.T. as of late and he has been making the most of it. In Tolliver’s last five games, he is averaging 22.2 minutes, 7.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He has now played in 43 games (0 starts) for the T-Wolves so far this season and he is averaging 18.9 minutes, 6.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. Tolliver plays the same position as Kevin Love, so he has to make the most of what few minutes he’s going to get and he has been doing just that lately.

Jonny Flynn is starting to get his act back together for the Minnesota Timberwolves

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 11 February 2011 at 5:59 pm

Luke Ridnour has been banged up lately and 22-year old point guard Jonny Flynn is making the most of it. Flynn started the season late due to off-season hip surgery and then he couldn’t get onto the court due to the play of Ridnour. Flynn is starting to shake the rust off this month. He has played in 5 games so far in February and he is averaging 30.0 minutes, 11.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game on 47.3% shooting from the floor. Flynn has now played in 27 games (5 starts) for the Timberwolves so far this year and he is averaging 19.5 minutes, 5.9 points, 1.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. He is only shooting 38.7% from the floor and 29.1% from three point range so far this year. He will need his shooting to continue to improve is he wants to hold of Ridnour when he’s ready to return to action.
